“It is best to register now so you can vote.”

America is a nation built by refugees and immigrants.

  • The US is a land of opportunity for Somali people
  • Those that came before me fought for the freedom to vote.
  • My vote ensures this freedom for my family and those that come after me.

I work hard, pay taxes and embrace the American dream.

  • I come with a desire to raise my family and contribute my talents and gifts to America.
  • I can best assist my family by participating in the American political system.
  • I can participate in the political system by registering to vote and helping elect those who best represent my interests and those of my family.

Becoming a citizen in America is an achievement.

  • It is someone that has worked hard and is of high moral character.
  • Our new citizens encourage others to be like them.
  • In turn, that person has an obligation to participate in the leadership and political system that affects our lives.
  • To participate in this new country of ours means to register to vote and participate in the political system by voting.
  • The Somali community is a viable political force in Minnesota.
  • In the last five years, a large number of Somali have become naturalized citizens.
  • Almost all Somali here now can become citizens before the next election
  • It is important that we gain an understanding of the American political system and how to best develop our vision of the kind of society we want.

America has changed dramatically since September 11, 2001. I am part of the solution.

  • The environment that exists today for immigrants and refugees is much different than it was before September 11th.
  • Issues such as immigration reform and national security affect our life every day.
  • It is important that the politicians who represent us understand how these policies affect me and my family.
